Katie & Gary ~ Wedding Day Slideshow ~ Oct 16, 2010
November 1, 2010Katie & Gary ~ Haddonfield, New Jersey ~ Wedding Photography
November 1, 2010Perhaps, possibly, the day could have been atypical. Perhaps the skies could have been an unusual color than the deepest of azure, the Haddonfield location could have been devoid of charm, and the sun hidden from view behind seasonal fall clouds. But that did not come to pass, and this made the wedding day ideal from the beginning.
Gary stood behind the stage curtain at The Haddon Fortnightly waiting for a indication of her entrance, to see that she had arrived and was prepared to pronounce without end. With the sun shining through the rustic windowpane, Katie processed down the aisle headed for Gary and their worlds fell in sync in front of their closest friends and family. Their lives (New Jersey, Corrections, hairstyling, friendship, love) rolled into a single solitary experience and they kissed to make it official.
Perhaps, just maybe, the day could have been out of the ordinary. But it did not come about, and this made the wedding day ideal from the start. Encircled by their friends and relatives, this wonderful pair swore everlastingly and preserved it with a kiss.
Katie and Gary, Thank you for allowing us to observe your day as it unfolded and keep a record of it through our lenses. I am grateful to have experienced such a wonderful day and I hope only the best for you in your lives together. Much love and admiration… G
The wedding and reception were both held at The Haddon Fortnightly in Haddonfield, New Jersey. Many thanks to my second shooter Matt Morrissey of Morrissey Photo.
Thomas ~ NEWBORN ~ South Jersey Newborn Photography
August 11, 2010When you shoot like I shoot, you shoot a lot. I mean A LOT. But never had I shot a newborn. When I saw this newborn on my calendar, I was so nervous that I could barely sleep the night prior. I was up to the challenge and with the help of my lovely assistant / wife Jennifer I think we did pretty darn well. I am now going to consider myself a rookie at photographing newborns.
Thanks go out to the parents, Becky & George. He was such a good baby that I could not have asked for a better first newborn session. Thank you for opening up your home and hearts to allow me to capture a moment in the beginning of little baby Thomas’ start on the venture of life. Enjoy! ~ Genaro
A great walk for the third year in a row!
July 26, 2010The high temperature could not keep us down. The Philadelphia – Old City leg of the Worldwide Photo walk 2010 was one for the record books. We came together as one large assemblage to share our fervor for taking photographs; and that is exactly what we did. What an exceedingly enjoyable day!
In my opinion, it so astonishes me that people still made it out to the walk, in spite of the elevated temperature in addition to the humidity. As soon as I walked into Washington Square and saw the rest of the walkers sweating it out, I knew the whole thing would be tolerable. Lots of photographs were created, acquaintances were made, and that is what it was all actually about.
I was blessed with a very great assemblage of photographers. The Old City portion of Philadelphia couldn’t have been more accommodating – offering illustrious points of interests, models to pose for us, and inviting us to go to and discover the nooks and crannies that bring out what the city is all about. It actually was a magnificent occurrence.
Hey, what do you say we do another one next year (or sooner than that)?
Want to see some of the amazing photos from this walk—check out the Flickr Group Pool right here.
P.S. Some walkers expressed some interest in one-on-one or group photography lessons. If you’re still interested, please contact me at genaro@orengophotography.com or through my website or blog.
I’m Back From 12-Days In The Caribbean
June 15, 2010Hello everybody – I am back from my break, which turned out to be a 12-day tour of the Eastern Caribbean by air, land, and sea. Nothing but rest and relaxation (with some travel photography thrown in as we slowly made our way from San Juan, Puerto Rico to the Lesser Antilles islands of Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua, St. Martin, St. Croix, and ending back where we started at San Juan). Jen and I celebrated our two year anniversary while cruising with Royal Caribbean on the Serenade of the Seas cruise ship. Along with my wife and I, we were joined by my in-laws. It turned out to be a nice little family vacation for all.
About the Photos
Although the Caribbean is full of amazing landscapes and seascapes our consisted of visiting major cities and ports. So, all the photos are from the those places we visited along the way.
Thanks to many sightseeing bus tours or catamaran boat rides along the coast, I pretty much only got the chance to catch snapshots during those times. So if you’re asking yourself ” where are the slowly studied and setup pro-quality photography shots” – I’ll have to try and find those on another visit. Maybe, one day I will go back on a dedicated photography tour.
Camera Specs:
I decided to go light on this trip and I was glad I did. I shot with a Panasonic Lumix LX3 point-and-shoot camera as my main rig and a Kodak disposable underwater film camera for those snorkeling excursions. Why didn’t I take my DSLR with a plethora of different lenses? Because I was on vacation. The idea of lugging heavy gear around for 10 hours a day would have turned out to be a huge pain in the a$$. Having just one camera that does it all was incredibly convenient. The quality of the images are top-notch. So, in the end, what did I learn? It does not matter what kind of camera you have in your possession. It could be anything from a disposable to the latest and greatest digital. In the end, the photographer’s vision wins out because without vision the camera is as good as a paperweight.
Anyway, here are some shots from the trip. Well, more so from San Juan, Puerto Rico. I gave myself a project one morning and walked around Old San Juan discovering the various characteristics in the doors. Not to mention the vibrant colors that the buildings are painted in to reflect the suns rays and protect the cement from deteriorating over time. I have not had the chance to go through the many of snapshots I took while on and off the beautiful Serenade of the Seas cruise ship. Maybe those will be up soon. I have a lot of catching up to do. So with out further interruption…Enjoy!
This is where Jen and I spent our days in Old San Juan. We rented a loft apartment from Caleta 64. It was a very nice experience living for three days among all that history and decor.
The old-world charm in Old San Juan is still very prominent. But between the vibrant colors and old rustic decor, you would be hard-pressed to not notice the for sale/rent signs and graffiti that litter the homes and streets around every corner. All I can say is what a shame and that I’d hope that this is not a sign of things to come for “La Isla del Encanto“.
Being in-front of the lens, instead of behind the lens, is harder than it looks – Model Shoot – Cait Scott
May 27, 2010When you are a photographer, taking a stab at modeling is harder than it looks. I always laugh when my photographer friends tell me that they usually do not pose for shoots themselves. Be it for various reasons, one tenet remains true, we would rather be behind the lens than in front of it. It is hard work to be in front of the camera, looking your best, putting yourself in the shoes of the many subjects who have stood in your shoes before. But, as you will see here, it can be so worth it! This photographer, my friend, Cait of Caitlin Scott Photography, had a great time modeling for a shoot on a beautiful sunny day in Philadelphia on a Saturday morning. Along with the excitement came the nerves, but she and I pulled through and created some great imagery. She also was very excited to see her new coral-colored, machine-washable dress in action. So without any further delay…

She looks great. Doesn’t she? Many thanks to Cait for being a great model for a change and to my wife, Jennifer, for helping out with the posing in some instances…we make a great team. And just to let other photographers out there know, it is not too late to get your photos done the way you want them to look. But you do not have to wait much longer. Contact me, and we can setup a session for you.
Gary and I have worked together at the prison as officers for the last four years. Two years ago, almost to the date, we were on the midnight shift, 10PM-6AM. While on our lunch breaks in the officers dining room, Gary would always give me grief for getting married in the following weeks. He would attempt to warn me that my bachelor lifestyle was coming to an end and that the regrets would be plentiful. All in good fun of course. Now fast-forward two years, to present day. Jen and I will be celebrating our two year anniversary in a couple of weeks; and shockingly Gary has found himself a beautiful, bright, and funny young woman named Katie. From the looks on their faces, it is evident that they are head-over-heels for each other. The chemistry between the two of them is like no other. As always, I am happy to see when a friend has found his counterpart in this world. Maybe, now he’ll rethink the comments made back in the officers dining room due to his new-found understanding. Best of luck to Gary and Katie in their relationship.
The shoot took place in a lakefront park with a little beach area in Medford, New Jersey. What a nice location. I will definitely be shooting there again. Also, this shoot could not have been done without the ever-appreciated second shooting of photographer Cait from Caitlin Scott Photography. A great photographer in her own rite and a great friend.
